Terry Pratchett’s Best Discworld Movie

Did you know there have been several movies made from Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels? These are high quality films with major stars like Sean Astin and Tim Curry. And yet, because I live in the U.S. I'd never heard of them.

I had only learned thanks to Netflix. There have been multiple television adaptations made last decade, and more coming. It seems like Pratchett was keen on keeping these a U.K. production, which  makes a lot of sense if stop to think about it for 2 seconds. He writes British humor!

So in order of awesomeness, here are the Discworld movies:

Hogfather - Sooner or later it comes down to blood. This is the best Pratchett movie and perfect for an alternative to Christmas movies. Absolutely one of my favorites and it has one of the stars of The Young Ones in a small role. DEATH has a starring role, and we get to see him pretending to be Santa Claus. Oh and the Tooth Fairy gets killed at one point. Win!

The Colour of Magic (Rincewind) - Well of course they would have to make a 2 (or 3?) part movie of the first Discworld novel. And of course it is hilarious, especially David Jason who plays Rincewind and Jeremy Irons as The Patrician. This one also stars Sean Astin as the tourist Twoflower, cementing him forever as king of the nerds.

Going Postal - I liked this movie, but because I loved the book so much I was unfairly critical. That's how it is sometimes. This is a hilarious story, and even better audio version. The movie is faithful, and I do enjoy a good golem jokes. Maybe I should watch it again to see if I like it.

That's all I could find for now, though I'm sure Good Omens or The Wee Free Men will eventually become a movie. It probably hasn't happened yet because it's too obvious that it should happen, so everyone assumes it has happened already. This is also why no one takes the garbage to the curb by the way.

And on that note, (damn) I hear the garbage truck....
